Your privacy
Yumi · last updated: 31 August 2026
In one sentence: Yumi asks you for no account, keeps your writing on your phone and in your private iCloud, shows no advertising and resells nothing. The only things that reach our servers are: the messages you choose to send in the conversation, with the little context that comes with them (detailed below); during the first few screens, the name of the screen being shown — never what you write on it; and your answer to “how did you find me”, if you give one. Neither of those last two is tied to you: the identifier used is created anew each time you open the app and is never kept.
Your journal follows you, without passing through us
If you are signed in to iCloud, Yumi saves your journal, your conversation with her and your settings in your private iCloud database — Apple's, on your account. That is what lets you find Yumi exactly as you left her after changing phone or reinstalling the app.
This data never passes through our servers and we have no access to it. It is encrypted by Apple and reserved for you, exactly like your photos or your notes. We can neither read it, nor copy it, nor restore it for you.
If you are not signed in to iCloud, or if you turn iCloud off for Yumi in your settings, the app works exactly the same — everything then stays on your phone alone, and will be lost if you delete the app.
No account
Nothing to create, nothing to remember. Yumi asks for no email address, no password, no phone number. Yumi does not know who you are, and has no need to. We therefore cannot link any piece of data to a person: that impossibility is deliberate.
Your data lives on your iPhone
Your evening notebook, your journal, your colourings and your answers to the opening questions are saved on your phone, nowhere else. They are not copied to a server. One exception, set out below: your mood of the day travels with your messages when you write to Yumi. We hold no copy and cannot give them back to you. Please note: uninstalling the app does not erase them if you are signed in to iCloud — to erase everything, use “Delete all my data” in your profile.
The conversation with Yumi — the one exception
When you write to Yumi, your message first goes to our server, hosted in the European Union. That server then passes it to Anthropic, in the United States — the provider whose technology writes Yumi’s reply. That transfer outside the European Union is governed by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
We keep no copy of your message: it crosses our server, it is not stored there. It is attached to no account, since none exists. It is neither sold, nor shared, nor used for advertising.
Sent along with the message: the first name you gave (or nothing, if you left it blank), what you said weighs on you most, your mood of the day, the time of day, what you have already done in the app today, and how many days in a row you have opened it — so that Yumi’s reply fits your moment. Nothing else: not your notebook, not your notes, not your history from past days. Messages are capped at twenty a day.
Sounds and images
The calming sounds and their covers are downloaded from our server. It is a plain file download: no profile, no tracking, no measuring of what you listen to.
The form on this site
If you write to us from the form on the home page, three things go to our server, hosted in France: the first name you give, your email address and your message. Nothing else — no stored IP address, no cookie, no tracker.
This information is used only to reply to you. It lands in our inbox and goes no further: no form provider, no analytics tool, no mailing list. We keep exchanges for as long as it takes to handle your request, then a year at most, so we can pick up the thread if you write again.
You never have to use this form: you can write to us directly at contact@mxcompanion.com from your own mail app.
Payment is Apple’s business
The subscription goes entirely through the App Store. We never see your payment card or your details. Apple only tells us that a subscription is active, without telling us whose it is.
Never
- No advertising.
- No trackers, no advertising identifier, no profiling. The only usage measure is the name of the screens seen during onboarding, under an identifier created anew each time you open the app.
- No reselling of data. No “partners”.
- No access to your camera, your photos, your microphone, your location or your contacts: the app never asks for them.
Notifications
You set their rhythm yourself during the first screens, and you can answer “when I need them”: in that case the app doesn’t even ask for permission. You can change everything at any time from the Profile tab, or from your iPhone settings.
Your rights
The European regulation (GDPR) gives you a right of access, rectification and erasure. In practice, with Yumi: “Delete all my data” in your profile erases everything about you, on your phone and in your iCloud. Uninstalling the app is not enough: the iCloud copy is precisely what lets you find everything again after changing phones. For any question, write to us: we answer as soon as we can.
If an answer doesn’t satisfy you, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).
Children
Yumi is not aimed at children under 15 and knowingly collects no data about them.
This is not care
Yumi keeps you company; Yumi does not treat. Yumi makes no diagnosis and replaces neither a doctor nor a psychologist. If you are in distress, the app shows the helpline for your country. In the US and Canada, 988 answers 24/7, free of charge (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). In a life-threatening emergency, 911; anywhere in Europe, 112.
Language
This policy is a translation of the French original, which alone is legally binding. In the event of any discrepancy, the French version prevails.
